Every boat out of Ao Nang leaves from the same place — Nopparat Thara Pier, a short ride from the hotel. From there, six regular speedboat routes fan out across the Andaman: two nearby island retreats, the Phi Phi group, Koh Lanta, and two landings on Phuket. Here's how to pick the right one.
Koh Phi Phi — the classic day trip
Three sailings a day (09:40, 11:40 and 13:40) put you at Ton Sai Pier in around 45 minutes. Phi Phi is the busiest of the six routes for a reason — Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, and the viewpoint over the twin bays are all a short longtail hop from where the speedboat lands. It's an easy day trip from Ao Nang, or a base for a night or two if you want to see the islands without the day-tripper crowds in the early morning and late afternoon.
Koh Yao Noi & Koh Yao Yai — the quiet ones
Sitting in Phang Nga Bay between Krabi and Phuket, the two Koh Yao islands see a fraction of the traffic Phi Phi does. Boats run three times a day to each — Ma Noh Pier for Koh Yao Noi, Chong Lard Pier for Koh Yao Yai — and the ride is under 30 minutes. Rubber plantations, fishing villages, and long empty beaches instead of beach clubs; a good pick if the point of the trip is to slow down for a day, not tick off a landmark.
Koh Lanta — for a longer stay
One boat a day, at 11:40, covers the run down to Saladan Pier on Koh Lanta. It's a real island with real towns rather than a day-tour stop, so this route mostly makes sense if you're relocating for a few nights rather than coming back the same evening — check the return schedule before you commit to a single-day visit.
Phuket — two piers, two purposes
Two Phuket routes run from Ao Nang: Bang Rong Pier (12:00 and 14:00), which is the better choice if you're actually headed onward to Patong, Kata, Karon, or the airport, and Rassada Pier (14:00), closer to Phuket Town itself. Both take around 90 minutes — worth building into travel days rather than treating as a casual side trip.
